Our Little Adrenaline Junkie

Like a future action sports aficionado, Casey is digging his zipline experience. What you don't see is him dismounting, and sprinting back to the start, in order to get another run in...

So You Think Your Toddler Can Dance

While I truly believe there is not much in this world more inane than reality TV, I am hereby submitting an audition tape to the not yet created show, "So You Think Your Toddler Can Dance". Considering there are so many useless reality shows on, there's a chance some network will bring this one to life...

This was Sydney at a birthday party. They were pumping music, and he just started getting his groove on...

You snooze, you lose

Tonight we had burritos for dinner. Well, Sydney had a burrito bowl. Basically all the fillings without the tortilla. He ate pretty good, picking at stuff with his hand. First, all the cheese. Then the beans, one by one. Then the meat and tomatoes. He ate almost all of it, and waved his hands to signal 'all done'. Meanwhile, Casey didn't want to eat his dinner. Mommy made him a burrito, wrapped all nice in aluminum foil. In his defense, Casey had a late lunch and likely wasn't hungry. Anyhow, I clean Sydney's hands and face, and get him down from his high chair. Normally, at this point, Sydney walks around and loads up a poop. Only this time, he walks over to Casey food, sniffs it like dog, and climbs up in the chair and takes a giant bite out of it!! Then he got comfortable in the chair, and ate and ate and ate. I had to peel the aluminum foil back for him three or four times! He left MAYBE one or two bites... Luckily Casey didn't come around looking for his dinner...

HA! I jacked my brother's dinner!

Diggin' in!

It's the simple things

We had an exciting holiday season in 2012. Teaching the boys about Christmas, decorating the tree, opening presents, etc. One of my personal highlights took place on a rainy day. I spent about 2 weeks under the weather, and Sydney hasn't been 100% healthy either. But when the rains came, and puddles formed, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. We bundled the kids up in the snow gear, and we set out to find some puddles. And find puddles we did. It was more like a pond. There was some BAD engineering/ planning going on here. I'm no genius, but shouldn't the landscape slope DOWNWARD toward the drains? And shouldn't the landscape not slope downward TOWARD the foundation of the house? Anyhow, we took full advantage of someone's screw up. We found a spot, right near a huge drain, that had standing water, maybe 4 inches deep. The boys, (the two small ones, and the big one) all ran through the puddle pond multiple times.
I can't put into words the joy I felt watching my boys' smiles as the enjoyed the activity. Such pure, innocent, simple joy... That was my highlight!

Night Time Potty Training

We are trying to take the next step in Casey's potty training. Until now, he has been using 'big boy underwear' during the day. For the most part, he is pretty good about getting to a toilet whenever he needs to pee. Daddy is trying to teach him to "P!ss like a man.." ie: pee while standing up. I'd say it's about 80-20 sitting vs. standing. But the important thing is that he is going in a toilet. However, at night, he was still wearing 'naptime underwear' ie: pullups. Well, the volume of pee during the night apparently exceeds the capacity of the pullups. That means soaked bed sheets. So, logic dictated, if the sheets are gonna be soaked every night, no harm in working on the nighttime training.
Thus, we have a new nighttime routine. We 'pee' him right before he goes to bed. Additionally, just before WE goto bed, we wake him up, escort him to the toilet and have him pee again. Last night was the first night we did it. When we woke him, he was (understandably) groggy and kept moaning, "Why are you doing this?". Despite his weak protests, he sat on the potty and p!ssed like a racehorse!!!
Stay tuned for the exciting adventures of night time potty training!!

UPDATE... Tonight, before we went to bed (approx. 10:30PM) we went to wake Casey up to pee him. Only he, his clothes, and his bed were all SOAKED. We changed him, changed the sheets on his bed, and peed him. Fast forward to 2:30AM. Went to check on his again... SOAKED... This ain't working so well... May have to switch strategies.

Day 2 UPDATE.. In the morning, Casey comes into our room and proudly says, 'I peed in the potty'. Sure enough, he had different pajama pants on. We were so proud of his new accomplishment... Then Mommy must have gotten suspicious. She says wait, if you peed in the potty, why did you change your pajama pants? Casey sheepishly replied, 'They might have gotten a little bit wet; just a little bit'. Then Mommy asks about his bed. Casey says, 'It might be a little wet, but it's ok!'
On the bright side, Casey did get up and go potty by himself. Albeit, AFTER he peed the bed... Baby steps..
