A heartwarming display

The other evening, I took the boys on a bike riding adventure. At my suggestion, we decided to ride to the ice cream factory and get a treat. Of course, Casey has been on this particular adventure many times. But Sydney has never experienced a ride to the ice cream factory. Even before embarking on the ride, Casey announced that he wants 'pink ice cream'. This is rather rare, as he is normally all about chocolate ice cream. Sure enough, when we reach the counter, he seeks out 'pink ice cream'.. So, I order him a scoop of 'Cherries Jubilee'. Meanwhile, little Sydney isn't even tall enough to look over the counter to choose his flavor. So, I order a Snickers ice cream for him and I to share. About two/ three spoonfuls in, Sydney decides he doesn't really care for the ice cream I have to offer. Rather, he is interested in Casey's Cherries Jubilee. "Uh oh" I thought.. This is gonna get ugly... Instead, Casey offers up a spoonful, and leans over the table and SHARES with Sydney. Feeling I dodged a bullet, I quickly scooped up a heaping spoonful of my ice cream to get Sydney distracted from Casey's ice cream. Sydney took one look at my offering, and shook his head no... And pointed back at Casey. And Casey kept preparing spoonfuls for Sydney, and leaning over the table to feed him! Casey about alternated scoops... OK, maybe he quickened his pace a little, and tried a little 2 for 1, but the point is that he kept sharing his ice cream with his little brother, all the way down to the end. Witnessing this almost brought tears to my eyes. Kinda like watching a crack head volunteer to pass the pipe.

Back to School

Not at all like Rodney Dangerfield, I went 'Back to School' this week. Instead of going back to college and trying out for the diving team, I accompanied Casey to his preschool class. I got to play with Mr. Potato Head for the first time in about 40 years... I got to sit on tiny chairs and partake in snack time. I got to play with cars. I DID NOT get to do any art; Casey wanted no part of that. Best of all, I got to have my child seek me out, grab my hand and lead me to sit with him on the group rug. He sat on my lap, laid on me and snuggled next to me. If I didn't know better, I'd say he really enjoyed having his Daddy in class with him. Oh yeah, and there was that part where Casey gave me a pom-pom and I proceeded to act a fool!

After class, I took my boy out to lunch. We went to Hennessey's for 2-1 burger day. What I do know is that I really enjoyed hanging with my Casey!

Mr. Potato Head... It's been about 40 yrs. since I've seen you!

Freedom

This past weekend, we converted Sydney's crib to a toddler bed. The little monkey had figured out how to use Casey's bed as a ladder, and used it to aid in climbing in and out of his crib. Since the crib was no longer going to hold him in, and to reduce the chance of injury, we made coming and going much easier (and safer) for him.
