You and Me, Little Man

Today, Casey and Mommy went to a birthday party. They had to leave the house in the middle of Sydney's nap time, and wouldn't return home until well after bed time. So, Sydney and I stayed behind. When he was finished with his nap, I went to his room. He greeted me with a soft, 'hi'... Instead of pulling him out of bed, I asked him to climb out. Sure enough, he climbed out all by himself. We read lots of books, he would choose a book, hand it to me, and sit in my lap. After that, it was dinner time. We went on a little adventure and went to a local hamburger joint. There is two kinds of seating in the place. Booths and high-top tables with bar stools. The only thing available upon arrival was the barstool configuration. So, I placed Sydney on a barstool, and 4-5 feet high! You can bet he felt like a big boy now! Problem was, he couldn't reach over the table, which rendered eating dinner impossible. I saw a young 'Mom' and her kid at a booth, and asked them if they could let us know when they were done... They did one better, and invited us to sit with them. Introductions were made, and the 'Mom' turned out to be an auntie, babysitting for the night. Her nephew was 5, and asked Sydney lots of questions. It was a nice, impromptu dinner arrangement.. As for food, I decided to forgo the kids menu, and ordered Sydney a hamburger, just like the one I ate. Little guy did pretty good, he ate ALMOST the whole thing, except for some of the bun.. Who knows, maybe he's on a low-carb diet... Yeah right, fat chance. Any kid of mine is guaranteed to LOVE carbs! We got home, drank some milk while watching some Thomas the Train on TV and got ready for bed. Thanks for hanging out with me tonight, little man!

Beep Beep Beep

Way back in Jan. 2011, Casey and I used to play this game on the stairs. Here's a basic description of it from the previous blog entry... Casey climbs 2 or 3 stairs... and sits down. I sit 1 or 2 stairs below him, and start saying, 'beep, beep, beep' while I rotate my torso backwards, closing in on him. He lets me 'smush' him, until he uses his arms and legs to push me away... at which point I take an exaggerated fling forward and do it again...

Well, recently, I decided to introduce Sydney to the game. I'm not sure if Casey remembered it, or just enjoyed it for what it is. But it was pretty obvious both of 'em liked it... One thing that touched my heart was how Casey was making sure they would alternate turns, saying "Sydney's turn"... And hearing your children's happiness and laughter is one of the best feelings in the world.

Happy Birthday!

It was a Super Sunday. Not because of some football game, but rather it was Sydney's 2nd birthday, and Casey's 4th birthday! Sydney's thing is trains. He loves trains, especially Thomas the Train. Casey's thing is was Cars. But, recently, ever since Sydney has discovered his love for trains, Casey magically decided he too, loved trains. While this has led to some sharing issues, it did make choosing the theme for the party pretty easy... TRAINS! Their birthday fell on the first Sunday of the month, which coincides with the Southern California Live Steamers running free train rides at the park. The whole party enjoyed a long train ride and Thomas themed cupcakes and goodie bags. Happy Birthday Boys!!!

Thats All You Get

Recently, we took a long awaited trip to SD to visit Nai-Nai and Ye-Ye. Casey had been asking to go for over a month, but one person or another was always sick. Finally, in late Jan, everyone was healthy, so we high-tailed it to SD for the weekend. We experienced some cool activities; we went to the science center in Balboa Park. There, we watched an I-max movie about polar bears. This being Da Boys first movie theater experience, they were a little freaked out at times, a bit overwhelmed. Sydney solved his problem by simply going to sleep!
Casey got to ride the SD trolley. We took a round trip jaunt from Grossmont Center to Mission Valley and back. Casey's highlight was the giant tunnel under SDSU!
One purpose of the trip was to deliver our holiday gifts to Nai-Nai and Ye-Ye. Casey was so excited to give the presents... But the poor guy had to wait most of the weekend, until everyone was awake and present at the same time. Finally, the time came, and Casey pulled items out of the bag. First was the 2013 calendar featuring custom pix of Da Boys. Next was a picture frame that Casey decorated in class... Then Casey looks in the bag, apparently sees nothing else, and says, "That's it. That's all you get"!!!
